Makeup We Can Actually Afford: Maybelline BB Cream

Makeup We Can Actually Afford: Maybelline BB Cream

So, as you know- I’m a fan of both drug store and high-end products. However, when it comes to foundations, I feel like if you can find something that works for you for less than $15, you shouldn’t hesitate to buy it just because it’s not high end. I realize that with all of my traveling that I do for school and work, I prefer to own some drugstore products that I can take with me on trips where if they got broken or damaged it wouldn’t be a huge loss. I’ve found that of all of the products I’ve ever purchased, the Maybelline BB Cream was the best foundation I have ever owned. It is best applied with a beauty blender or sponge, and has NEVER caused me to break out. It can be worn alone or with a powder, (I recommend Revlon Nearly Naked). This product is about $8-$9 and not only gives your skin a great matte finish, but also gives you some sun protection, (great for white people like myself.) Maybelline usually has great products (though I’m not a fan of the Fit Me line- side note: I want to try the shine stick)- but this one seems to be a holy grail for me. Definitely pick it up next time you’re at Target or Ulta and let me know what you think!

I can wear red lipstick! And other things I learned this month.

So June is coming to a close and I have learned a few things this month.  One of the most exciting being that I finally allowed myself to put on red lipstick.  Don’t get me wrong, this was not your run- of- the- mill 99 cent store lipstick.  No neon gaudiness here. (No offense to you classic girls).  This was more of a deep plum-red lip coat that I pulled from my beautiful 2012 Winter Collection Sephora Cube palette. The picture below shows a small excerpt of some of those coat hues, however; the one the brush is dipping in is far from the color with which I experimented.  Please excuse the dust and small kitty hair; I rarely use those upper neon hues, bleck.

My advice to girls that are hesitant to try wearing red lipstick; try it in the protection of your room.  With good lighting and no friends around to harass you for your daring new choices.  It’s like the whole thing about “dance like no one’s watching”.  Just, apply lipstick like no one’s watching and make sure you have a good arsenal of makeup remover ready until you find a hue that doesn’t make you look psychotic or dead..or psychotic AND dead.

What else did I learn in June?  That I love the Naked 2 Palette.  I have as of recent found multiple uses for the UD palette, such as an all-over bronzer.  The first four pigments from left to right of the palette, (Foxy to Chopper) when swept over with a Kabuki brush, can be applied to the cheeks, shoulders, and legs to provide a contouring, thinning, and tanning effect.    I would also suggest adding some BB cream, (my favorite being from Maybelline) under the areas where you are going to apply the shadows, since the areas getting the most contouring are usually the quickest to be burnt.  I also think it somewhat primes the skin so that the dust doesn’t just fall off!

I also learned that not using enough heat protectant before straightening the shorter sections of your hair (like your bangs, or-fringe, rather, as some people call it) can lead to it becoming fried and plastic-y feeling, just like my old Barbie doll head.  I used to do her hair 24/7 and it was fried to begin with.

Guess Barbie should never be a hair role model.

My first YouTube Video!

So I know this Video is ridiculously boring. And my audio is offset 😦 Luckily I’ll be home tomorrow and can start filming with my Nikon L810. For now I had to do something to get over the video cliff! This video is basically a little review/tutorial of some of my favorite travel and basic face products.

Favorite Drugstore Products for May!

Favorite Drugstore Products for May!

So, I don’t believe in drug store products. Which is hilarious, since I usually have no money. So let me rephrase. I have no faith in drug store products alone. Certain combinations of drugstore products are amazing. Amazing like the combination in the photo above.
Let me start by saying part of this purchase was a total accident. I thought I was buying a Loreal Mineral Foundation. It turns out, I actually picked up the mineral powder, put it back down, and instead, grabbed the mousse. I am so insanely glad I did. It is full coverage, and makes my skin look amazing, even when it’s decided to naturally be not so amazing.
I also purchased an Almay concealer, which is great. I put it on right after my primer, and before the Loreal mousse. I finish with the Maybelline BB cream that’s in the photo. It blurs imperfections, literally. It smooths out your face AND protects it, which is a great deal for like, $7. Lastly is the soft lips. I know this is kind of an old craze, but I never used it prior to this week. It literally kills the cracks on your lips in 2-3 uses, even if those uses are within the same 24-hour period. Make sure you try out these products, (especially the BB cream) and let me know what other drug store product combinations you’ve tried that totally beat the norm.
